General Information

California is the #1 state in vegetable production, with annual cash farm receipts of over $3.5 billion. Faculty research, extension and education at UC Davis in genetics, biotechnology, physiology, nutrition, management, postharvest handling, and transportation of vegetable crops and commodities serve this vast industry. Scientists in the Weed Science program develop management techniques to reduce weed competition with crops and limit weed invasion of forests, rangeland, wetlands, and waterways.

A wide spectrum of activities, from cutting-edge research in plant molecular biology to the implementation of novel production and marketing management systems, are being pursued. As members of the California Agricultural Experiment Station, UC Cooperative Extension and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the faculty maintains an active commitment to create and extend scientific knowledge to support the sustainable use of our biological, soil and water resources for continued food production.
